It took me back somehow to 20 years ago when my youngest daughter was around 5 and there was a 5.0 earthquake today swimming in my cousin's pool and I had to talk her into staying in the center of the pool so she wouldn't have a problem as the water was sloshing out from the earthquake all around her. It was the last time an earthquake scared me really bad. The temperatures were up to 78 here today and so it was a good day to eat outside by the pool. We saw a Long Tailed Widowbird that my cousin has noticed has been sitting on a telephone line nearby for the last week or so. It's not one he sees regularly here in southern California. I was wondering what would cause a bird to grow a tail this long. I was speculating so that the male could pull out feathers to make a nest for his mate maybe? not sure. Most physical adaptations have a reason that they exist for so I was trying to figure out what it could be for the male Widowbird? Below it says that widowbirds are brood parasites like Cuckoos. That could be a part of it. So, here is what it looks like:
