I was thinking about this tonight and thinking how being mobile when bad weather comes whether it is tornadoes or hurricanes or flooding or even extreme heat where you could leave that area (for a time) until the danger clears and then return home at some point in the future. I think this makes the most sense for the average person in all this.
Weather will get more and more unpredictable over time everywhere on earth. But, it isn't going to hit everywhere at once. When something bad in the weather is happening one place that doesn't mean it is also happening every other place too. So, if you get a foreboding weather report that shows you it might be dangerous where you are then, then maybe gather your family or friends and get out of there for a little while in you camper or motor home of one size or another.
If I was younger I likely would buy something like the Mercedes Sprinter 4WD. Though they aren't cheap they are also smaller and compact. If you have ever driven a 30 foot or more motor home any distance you would likely much prefer a camper the size of a Mercedes Sprinter for a variety of reasons.
Most of the time in order to avoid a weather calamity you only would be gone at most a few days to a week before you would return to the chaos you left behind. And whether or not your home was destroyed in one way or another, you still would have your Mercedes Camper to stay in even if you had to work or go to school where you are living.
I think it's really important to start preparing for weather way beyond anything we have seen so far and to prepare for whole coastlines to radically change around the world as the oceans rise and the tides and waves hit harder and harder around the world. it isn't just California but wherever there are beaches or cliffs on the ocean worldwide that are drastically changing now.
For example, I have seen palm Trees on Kauai and on TV seen palm trees also washed into the ocean at Refugio STate park north of Santa Barbara and Goleta. So, this isn't just happening one place but likely all over where there are palm trees growing near the ocean during bigger storms with bigger waves and tides.
Note: However, it is also true that you could rent a hotel room 100 to 500 miles away from a coming weather disaster too if you could afford that. So, it's whatever works for your budget and situation to survive the coming weather disasters worldwide.
And Also even taking a bus or hitchiking or whatever you need to do to survive a storm of any magnitude including staying at relatives or friends houses or just getting into your car or on your motorcycle or bicycle or even walking for some people also would work.
The point is: "Surviving whatever you are facing is the important thing." Whatever else happens if you don't survive you cannot help yourself or anyone else either because you are gone.
