Ever since our nation was founded by people seeking a place to practice their religion (whatever it was) to live in peace practicing their religion it has been one of the hallmarks of everything American. Now, it is true when I grew up you were free to practice your religion as long as it was some Christian derivation. However, if it was anything else you just had to not talk about it too much among the majority in this nation who were Christians. It hasn't really changed all that much since then. So, today freedom of religion works best in America if you are ONLY a Christian. However, our legal system reflects the rights of all religions(that have peaceful intentions towards the United States and all it's peoples) to practice their peaceful religions here in the U.S. from now into perpetuity(forever).
However, there have always been those who don't want any religions here in the U.S. but Christian ones and I understand that and why it is they feel that way. However, as a legal entity the U.S. must champion the rights of all peaceful religions to co-exist peacefully here in the U.S.
And that is why President Obama supports the new Islamic Mosque being built near Ground Zero near the ruins of the Twin Towers that went down on 9-11.
It is important to realize, however, that if people associated with that mosque are not peaceful that they will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and that this also Obama would support.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
