1/2 mile in a few seconds
Regarding the Washington slide, one lady saw the slide coming and while she was saying "Oh My God!" she and her house were moved 1/2 mile. She said she thinks she must have been traveling freeway speeds or up to 150 mph she was pushed so fast. So, this is why the people driving their cars couldn't outrun it. Also, the roads mostly are perpendicular to the slide so this wouldn't have helped either. So, even if you saw the slide coming and were a fast runner you had no hope at all of outrunning this slide when it hit or hitting the gas on your car to get away from it. That is why so many are still missing now that haven't been found because they might be 4 stories deep in wet mud and debris from the slide.
