Since they have now cleared all the passengers from wrong doing it has to either be catastrophic technological failure or too few people in the cockpit to handle whatever went wrong. So, this ruling makes a lot of sense maybe for all air lines on earth.
For example, what if the pilot or co-pilot on duty suffered an illness or psychotic break while the door was shut while they were alone in there. What if the pilot fainted or hit their head while moving or during an unexpected up or down draft while moving about the cockpit for any reason? The acting pilot would not then be conscious or functional (for whatever reason) to open the cockpit door and because the cockpit door is designed not to be opened from outside by gun or even by axe there is no way to get in to the unconscious or psychotic pilot so the plane is going to crash eventually, sooner or later like this one likely did.
Or what if the remaining pilot alone in the cockpit has an attack of diarrhea from something bad he ate and has to run out and forgets that someone has to be in the cockpit in order to let people into the cockpit?
