I was listening to CNN on "Wolf" this morning and Jim Sciutto was interviewing Secretary of State John Kerry. Basically what Kerry said was we were not presently using hellfire missiles from drones hitting ISIL pickup trucks and installations because it would be seen by Sunni Countries that we were taking a side in this Shia Versus Sunni Sectarian War. However, if the government of Iraq is in danger of falling if ISIS began attacks inside of Baghdad, Najaf or Karbala, the U.S. would have no choice but to start blowing up ISIS vehicles with Hellfire missiles out of drones at that point.
However, Kerry said that the problem is political because rights have been taken away from Sunnis by the Maliki government. So, until those rights are restored to Sunnis all over Iraq there is no military solution that the U.S. can participate in until a coalition government has formed. Only in the emergency of an attack on the Baghdad area would the U.S. start blowing up the attacking ISIS vehicles and fighters in an emergency response so the whole infrastructure of the government wouldn't be destroyed forever with most of the Iraq government either running into exile or being executed by ISIS.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
