My wife just found this out today. So, don't underestimate the amount of pain killers you are going to have to take to survive this operation. The pain is from cutting the tips of both bones off and shaving bone and drilling holes so the metal pieces can be set in and glued into place. Also, your leg is going to be swollen for at least one year so be aware of this as well. You need at least one support person (a significant other) around most of the time or you likely need to hire a nurse to visit or be with you at home during recovery. Also, don't expect to be working while healing from this because it will be at least 3 weeks minimum before you can drive a car. One of the biggest problems you might encounter in addition to the pain and swelling is making sure you don't get addicted to a pain killer like percoset because after taking 2 tablets a day for 2 weeks you really need to be careful and start taking less every day so you don't have an addiction problem to it.
She was having her knee replacement done one week ago today and they had her up and walking on it with a walker the next morning.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
