My daughter told me throughout her Prep School High School life that she wasn't allowed to use Wikipedia as a source. I am not bound by this rule and I find Wikipedia very helpful. One of the reasons is Wikipedia lists it's sources which can be checked which are often News Articles from around the world that are listed at the end of each wikipedia article. Also, Wikipedia contributors often update articles daily or weekly. So, you can learn the latest that can be gleaned on whatever the subject is on a daily or weekly basis (if people are adding stuff on any particular subject).
This works well often with big news stories that are ongoing like things affecting a great number of people in different parts of the earth.
So, even though your kids or grandkids might not be allowed to use Wikipedia as a source that doesn't mean you and I can't because usually wikipedia sources have to be listed and by going to news sources, they are usually required to be accurate about whatever they are writing about.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
