Californians moving because of drought
I think it was in the late 1970s or early 1980s when the last big migration away from California occurred. Now it is occurring again because of the drought. In many areas the economy IS farming, so without farming there is really nothing powering the economy there except maybe retired people's incomes. So, people whose wells run dry especially are going to move because paying for hauled water might be too much on top of everything else. In the 1970s and 1980s it was Seattle and Portland that people were moving to. However, now the drought is somewhat affecting them too all the way up into British Columbia in Canada. So, we will see where people choose to go now. Even my daughter in Portland I helped buy a portable air conditioner because it was staying in the high 90s and 100s Fahrenheit for several weeks there recently. Luckily now it is high 70s to high 80s which isn't as bad. But, for places like Portland and where I live on the coast of Northern California no one normally has air conditioners. But, in all places up and down the coast they are starting to buy air conditioners now this year because of really consistently high temperatures. I have even thought of buying a portable air conditioner for where I live too this year because of super high humidity all summer long so far. However, where I live it mostly doesn't go above 80 to 85 Fahrenheit during summers but this year it is anybodies guess.
