I got to thinking about how many birds will die from drones. At first I thought that they likely would die from running into drone propellers which as of now are unprotected which would cut off birds heads or wings or feet. But, then I thought more about this and except for predatory birds, birds generally don't run into each other because they see each other and just get out of the way. What tends to kill birds is windows that they think are just open space (this happens a lot) and wind generators kill a lot of predatory birds like Hawks and Eagles and other raptors like Falcons.
As I thought about this more I realized the most birds killed by drones would be during mating season when there are baby chicks and the birds feel protective of their chicks and might attack the drones and just be beheaded by propellers on drones when they do this.
So, likely in the springtime when the most birds who would be parents of baby birds would die when they attack a drone thinking it might be a predatory bird. But, over time they also might learn that this isn't a predatory bird but something else instead. So, I guess we will just have to see what happens worldwide with drones delivering all sorts of things now.
In the end the little delivery drones just might be more of a threat to humans and the pets of humans as well as children playing outside as they crash into powerlines and houses and people when they come down to make deliveries or when their batteries go dead in the middle of a delivery and the drones fall out of the sky on top of someone's head or they fly too close to people and take off fingers or eyes of people or the propellers cut people's faces when they open a front door and don't expect a drone to be making a delivery. So, it should be interesting to see who is injured or dies more from drones: birds, animals or people of all ages.
By the way, the combination of Drones making deliveries combined with self driving cars and trucks are going to be taking about literally millions and millions of jobs worldwide that likely will not be replaced for those people who lose those jobs.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
