There isn't the same system of laws in Europe. Freedom of Speech isn't as absolute as here in the U.S. so Facebook and Google and everywhere else must police what is on their sites to prevent people dying from it almost everywhere in Europe. So, Facebook and Google and everyone else pay the price to police this sort of thing there or Facebook and Google and everyone else cannot be in Europe at all.
But, here in the U.S. we haven't learned to address this yet so we will have to find a means to prevent deaths from lies pretending to be actual news. But, we are not there yet because our legal system regarding doing this is much more complicated.
For example, a NAZI party or a Ku Klux Klan can have a parade anywhere in the U.S. However, they also might get beat up for this or even shot depending upon where they are doing this here in the U.S.
But, in some places this parade of Nazis or KKK might be tolerated. Other places not so much.
So, when does Fake news kill people and when should it be stopped?
I'm thinking likely 5, 10 or 20 people might have to die from the results of Fake news before laws change to prevent it completely here in the U.S. and I'm not sure what form those laws would take.
Here's the strangest thing of all. The biggest purveyor of fake news right now I would say is Donald Trump himself late at night on Twitter. So, I wonder how many people Trump will accidentally kill through HIS Fake news?
For example, people are already sending death threats to the Carrier Union head who corrected how many jobs actually were going to be saved which is different than what Trump said.
