The easiest way to understand this is history. It's because most people don't study history that most reporters never thought about this.
Here's the thing here. The populace historically of the United STates prefers to change parties in their president (AT LEAST) every 8 years unflinchingly. Study History.
So, for example, in my lifetime the last 68 years there has only been ONE exception to this hard and fast rule which was Bush I who was Reagan's Vice President and he only lasted 4 years. (Which is also logical because he could have only been elected once after Reagan had served 8 years already. Remember this is historical about the American Populace.
So, we had historically speaking a 75 to 80% chance that the president was going to be a Republican out of the gate if we study history so far regarding who would be president.
This is part of the reason Trump got elected because he won (for whatever the reason) over all other Republican Candidates (around 17 of them). So, since it is logical that this president would be Republican given all historical factors by about a 75% to 80% chance.
ON top of all this we now have a worldwide Populist movement caused directly by Globalization and the death of the middle Class in many developed countries around the world. This has already caused Brexit, And Trump and Duterte in the Philipinnes who has already murdered at least 5000 to 10,000 drug users and dealers on the streets of the Philipinnes.
So, the above is the actual historical reason Trump was elected beyond anything else.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
