If we are to take these projections seriously it is possible that the island of Hawaii is going to get much bigger than it is already through the types of "Rivers of Lava" flowing to the sea making the island much bigger over the long run. Also, it is destroying many parts of Volcanoes National Park including most buildings in the park from the constant earthquakes of 2.5 to 5.0's or bigger ongoing every day from the ever explosive volcano(or volcanoes) depending upon how you refer to what is actually going on there because lava is flowing out of many fissures some larger than others. And some are creating the constant river to the ocean that has already filled in an entire bay that is no more on Hawaii.

I also agree with this geologist because if this was going to be a short term eruption it would have ceased already. So, like him I presently believe it could easily go on for years at this level or a higher or lower level the way all things look right now.

But, I think what everyone has to keep in mind is that this same vent created Midway Island and all the Islands south of it like Kauai, Nihau, Oahu, Molokai, Maui and the big island over time and others big and small.

So, understanding that it likely will create more islands besides the big island of Hawaii and likely make Hawaii much bigger before it starts creating new Islands in the Hawaiian island chain reaching all the way up to Midway Island as the plate moves over the vent. My thought is that the vent must be moving slower now than before or else the big island wouldn't have gotten this big.

Because look at the distance between Maui and the big Island of Hawaii. What happened there as the tectonic plats slowly moves mostly northwards towards Midway island. But Midway Island also will keep moving northward because it is attached to the plate as well as all the other islands in the chain.
