The Park fire is now consuming 4000 to 5000 acres per hour

The fire grew exponentially late Friday into Saturday morning due to steep terrain and high winds, moving around four to five thousand acres the hour. The fire has forced evacuations in multiple Northstate counties.

When a fire is consuming this many acres per hour this is often when people will die because they cannot get out of the way in time. By the time they have figured out that the fire is nearby it's too late to leave especially in mountainous terrain like this is. The other problem with mountainous terrain is that there are very few roads and if the one you need to get out on is on fire then you better dig a hole in the ground or something because it is going to get you otherwise. And even if you dig a hole in the ground to survive you might not be able to breathe to stay alive in the smoke.

My friends in Mt. Shasta say that like the fire the smoke is blowing northward now and it is covering Mt. Shasta in the smoke so it's harder to breathe at altitude right now. So, if you are going there be sure to stay in your car if you are from the ocean elevations and you are older because otherwise you won't be able to breathe in this heavy smoke. Mt. Shasta is at 3500 feet elevation on average (the city).
