Senators urge investigation into Tesla's 'Full Self-Driving' after train crossing incidents

I had this experience renting a car (a 4 wheel Drive Ford Expedition) a few days ago and I found that someone had left the automatic driving feature on.

Here's what was strange about all this. When I was close to Charlotte I could let the car drive itself completely on the freeway and I didn't have to ever even touch the steering wheel ever which I thought very strange coming from  California where you have to at least touch your steering wheel every 20 or 30 seconds because an alarm goes off if you aren't at least touching the steering wheel once every 20 or 30 seconds. However, in Charlotte for about 1/2 hour or one hours driving I didn't have to touch that steering wheel even once. I thought this pretty strange actually. But, at a certain point (i think it's the wifi around Charlotte is more there) you then because the car was out of the city far enough it reverted to how things are in California where alarms went off if I didn't touch the steering wheel at least every 20 to 30 seconds as I drove towards Boone, North Carolina for a wedding.

So, it's possible that every city area creates different software perameters that automatic Driving is governed by.

However, I have ridden in my cousins Tesla Model S and how it could go to zero to 60 in about 3 seconds (it can do this by the way) because there are no gears (there is only one gear) and a whole lot of electric torque which nails you to your headrest for those 3 seconds with all 4 wheels pulling equally.

But, I don't know anything personally about the Tesla's Automatic Driving because I have never actually driven any Tesla Model.

The biggest problem I run into if the car is completely driving itself is that soon I want to go to sleep (especially because of the 3 hours time difference from California. So, be careful of the 1 hour stints of the never touching the steering wheel because you might go to sleep while the car is driving itself is really really really unsafe and potentially fatal when the Automatic Driving Feature goes off while you are asleep.

However, only my older daughter and I are in sync enough with this kind of technology to actually use it in my family. We are able to completely interface with the car sort of like the car becomes our hat or something. Interfacing with the computer technology is necessary for safety while using it. Otherwise, if you are not interfacing properly with the technology it would sort of be like Skiing when you really don't know how to ski (You could easily die).
