Education is ultimately one of the most important things this century for mankind to retain as many parts of it's advancements in technology, culture and religion worldwide.
It is likely that increasing storms like Sandy and Katrina will wipe out infrastructure of nations near the coasts of all civilized areas of earth. It will be random and unexpected for the most part. In the case of tornadoes there may be no warning, in the case of hurricanes and Cyclones there may be warning of a day to a few days, in the case of droughts it will be ongoing, in the case of floods it will be ongoing, in the case of winds it will be enduring.
The damages will not take out all civilization, only parts of it here and there but the wealth of all nations will be diminished this century by all these events. The cause of it is less important than preparing for it. Because likely at this point it cannot be stopped now only slowed down by human action. So, knowing that it is both coming and increasing and preparing for it is the only serious thing we can do. Those who prepare for it by changing their lives when warning occurs will survive it. Those who move to places where there are less likely to be life shattering events will have a better probability of financial and physical survival of such events.
Mass education worldwide to a college level will better prepare all our children and adults to make better decisions because of critical thinking learned to evaluate problems of all kinds.
By the way, "Critical Thinking" does not refer to criticizing others. It refers to the capacity for rational useful thought in all kinds of situations combined with the capacity to make pragmatic useful decisions regarding anything in people's lives. In this case "Critical Thinking" will make the difference often between life and death for billions of people in the coming centuries here on earth.
