They couldn't explain spontaneous human combustion but they could explain candlization of a human corpse by using a carcass of a dead pig instead. What the fireman did is to cover the carcass with cotton or wool (as the wick) and then "light" the intestinal area that has methane and fat there. The Irish case of spontaneous combustion they believe was a man who died with his fireplace burning for warmth so when an ember landed on him he must have already been dead. The bodies methane and fat act like a candle and the cotton or wool acts like a wick and it consumes the body very slowly like a candle would leaving only the feet and part of the head left intact with the rug burnt underneath the corpse of the pig or man.
I found this pretty interesting that the methane in the intestines and the fat in the body and the cloth as a wick could be lit by a candle or ember or possibly even by a match under the right conditions on this.
This was on the World's Strangest program in the "Explosions" episode released originally in 2013 on TV.
