Every time you take a shower (if you are the first one taking one for a few hours) you can collect up to 2 to 3 gallons if your house is a large one like mine. So, every time I take a shower and the hot water hasn't come yet I just let it go into a 5 gallon plastic bucket while waiting for hot water.
This seems to be the single most effective way to gather a lot of recyclable water that doesn't have soap in it. This way you can keep some plants or trees alive around your home or apartment while not breaking any of the new laws regarding watering of plants or trees anywhere in California.
A secondary way is to think about when you are using soap to wash up with and when you are not needing that. For example, when you are cleaning fruit or veggies for cooking and eating often you don't use soap at all so this water can be collected safely for plants or trees also. Or when you are not needing soap to rinse off your hands or anything else, just water. All this can be collected to keep your plants or trees alive.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
