Forecasts for winter in South, East, Southwest and Southeast

The forecasters said they are expecting a wetter than normal winter in the South and along the East Coast to southern New England. Temperatures are expected to run above average from the Pacific Northwest to the Great Lakes and below average in the Southwest and Southeast.

Let's think about this for a moment. If you have a wetter than normal winter in the South, East on up to southern New England and then you have above average temperatures from the Pacific Northwest on into the Great Lakes that means less snowpack and more runoff so more flooding from the Pacific Northwest through to the Great Lakes. More rain means likely more flooding for the South and East Coasts. Colder weather in the Southwest and Southeast is sort of hard to predict what that will bring at this point. But, if you look at Noaa weather prediction maps there is going to be a whole lot of rain from the east coast all across the southern part of the country and then west up to about San Francisco from the El Nino this year.
