• The following maps link the growth of ISIS between June 23rd 2014 and May of 2015. I was interested in looking at these maps to see that ISIS is mostly in Iraq and less so in Syria. So, even though people talk about the headquarters being in Syria in Raqqa, it appears that most of ISIS is mostly in Northern Iraq in Anbar province and northwards.

The fast-moving militants have taken control of large areas of Iraq and Syria. They have lost ground in some places, but control more territory than they did a year ago, according to analysis from the Institute for the Study of War in Washington, D.C.
