HENRY ROMERO/REUTERS A flurry of exploding fireworks ripped open a Donald Trump effigy during an Easter celebration in Mexico City's La Merced neighborhood.
Fireworks erupted from the New York billionaire’s papier-mâché grinning head in Mexico City’s La Merced neighborhood, one of several symbolic figures torched during the country’s traditional Burning of Judas Iscariot on Holy Saturday.
The annual celebration picks on public figures representing evil — likening Judas betrayal of Jesus, according to the Bible.
In a stunning display, the explosives burst the idol's torso wide open as it hung by a noose, exposing layers of newspaper strips crafted by artist Felipe Linares for the nighttime revelry.
For this year’s Holy Week celebrations, Linares picked Trump for months of his xenophobic diatribes.

Among Trump’s outlandish campaign promises that enraged Mexicans, Trump wants Mexico to pay for the proposed wall. Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto said there’s no “scenario” where his administration will fork over funds for a wall between his country and the United States.
He likened Trump’s rise among voters to dictators Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini emergence.
The real estate tycoon kicked off his presidential campaign in June 2015 by labeling those entering the United States illegally from Mexico as “rapists” and “criminals.”
Another display shows what appears to be a cowboy holding Trump’s decapitated bloodied head.
Trump wasn't the only despised figure burned during celebrations held across Mexico. Photos show effigies of a horned devil labeled “ISIS” and President Obama holding both an American and Cuban flag following his historic trip to the communist country.
The fireworks inside an Obama effigy reportedly failed to explode, witnesses said.
