Religions were invented to keep you from killing yourself

(when a friend, loved one, lover or spouse dies)

It is mostly a Tribal thing. If they could keep enough people alive through religion they might fight off the next attack from a neighboring tribe. Then this became more important when tribes joined into nations and became more institutionalized.

However, if you are searching for truth it usually isn't necessarily in religion even though some truth can be found there too.

IF you are serious about your search for truth, then philosophy not religion is where you will find truth.

I find in the nexus of Philosophy and religion (your present religious conditioning) you will find a place (if you are persistent) where you will find enough peace to live your life in honor and kindness to all beings without resorting to killing yourself or others in the process.

But, to expect to find full truth in ANY religion is usually to find yourself disappointed and suicidal if you are serious in this quest.

You can find more truth in science but often then it is remote and meaningless to your emotions and physical well being. So, you must feed not only your mind, but your spirit and emotions to survive your life as a whole person.

But, if you are empowered by first realizing that religions were invented as a way to keep you (and everyone else from killing themselves between birth and around age 30 then you understand it is mostly about keeping people alive in a tribe, city, or nation and not about truth.

Just as politics is seldom about truth and rather fat cats getting fatter worldwide, religion is often like this in an organized sense.

So, your direct enlightenment with the whole universe is less about religion and more about a sincere search for truth wherever that takes you.

Because in the end most religion is political and about money and land and not really about the truth at all. But, often it takes years to fully understand this in your life.

But, in understanding this you become free to live your life as a free man or  free woman from then on.
