Today at 54 Degrees Fahrentheit the Wind chill factor must have been beyond most of what I have experienced this winter. When I got back to my truck after walking my dogs through the forest my hands felt like I was close to frostbite on my hands even though that is theoretically impossible at 54 degrees Fahrenheit. Here on the northern California coast it can feel really cold when a northern storm goes through like the end of this one from last night!
Mark Twain's statement comes to mind even though it is still theoretically winter:
"The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco!"
Which is also true of northern California which we call often the June Glooms when the fog comes in driven by warming weather inland and stays for a month or two or three.
Northern California coasts are completely different than Southern California coasts. On Southern Coasts 100 Degrees or more is not that unusual from about Pismo Beach south to San Diego. But, almost anywhere north of San Luis Obispo or Big Sur this is the case where Clouds and fog high and low can be here on the coast from June to as late as July or August in any given year.
What was amazing to me is that I have often felt tons warmer while skiing at 25 to 30 degrees Fahrenheit in full sun in the snow. Part of that is likely being parboiled by the sun and getting a sunburn, so hopefully you have good sunglasses on so you don't go snow blind from direct sun on snow.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
