Tibetan is right now a dying language because it is being overrun by Chinese in Tibet to the point where you cannot speak Tibetan and earn a living there anymore. So, sort of like how American Indian Languages were wiped out by the White Man in the 1800s and in the 1900s until around 1960 or 1970 when AIM formed (American Indian Movement) and there was a push back in many forms which brought resurgence to many Native American languages and religions and customs once again.
Also, like this Tibetan is being snuffed out by the Chinese in Tibet consciously to permanently remove Tibetan Buddhism as a threat to China.
But, likewise in INdia where Tibetans are tolerated they cannot do business with the majority Hindus or minority Muslims without speaking either Hindu or English which is the least offensive language to East Indians.
So, for all these reasons Tibetan as a language is dying and on it's way to becoming a dead language like Sanskrit and Latin.
So, this is why learning Tibetan is helping the Tibetan people keep their religion, culture and history alive ongoing, and you will be able to read ancient Tibetan and through Tibetan possibly learn Sanskrit as well which is the basis of Hindi, Tibetan, Russian and several other languages as well.
I'm not entirely sure the relationship between Chinese and Sanskrit, however.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
