I myself have heard a bullet sounding like a bee going over my head from hunters who thought they were shooting at deer in a forest near land I owned in the 1980s in Mt. Shasta area. I wasn't hit by this
bullet luckily but I also had my wife and children on my 2 1/2 acres then too at the time. Hunters very often around the country mistake each other for deer and accidentally shoot each other. This kind of thing is not an unusual thing especially when beer is involved in the hunting. Often hunters think bullets will be stopped by trees in a forest if they miss the deer. This doesn't always happen. by the way most places it is only legal to shoot bucks because you want the female deer to propagate more deer so they don't go extinct and you only need 1 or 2 bucks to impregnate a herd of female deer. If the bullet disabled the truck likely it was a 30 odd 6 which can go right through an engine block or 10 men on a battlefield before it stops.

Pickup truck shot by hunter who thought it was a deer in western N.Y.
A hunter apparently mistook a pickup truck for a deer.
(Hadimor/Getty Images/iStockphoto)The shooting Friday was the second hunting accident in Chautauqua County in three days. Police say 43-year-old Rosemary Billquist was shot and killed Wednesday by a man who thought she was a deer.
The Post-Journal of Jamestown reports that Friday's incident happened around 11:30 a.m. in North Harmony.
Sheriff's deputies say Marvin Miller of Middlefield, Ohio, fired a high-powered rifle at a pickup truck.

They say Miller told authorities he had mistaken the truck for a deer.
The sheriff's office says the bullet entered the engine compartment and disabled the truck.
Miller was arrested on charges including reckless endangerment.
It's not clear if he has a lawyer who could speak for him.
