Storms are going to be hitting the coast and traveling east dropping 3 feet of new snow on top of the snow already in the Sierra. However, Wednesday we expect 20 to 25 foot waves in this area too so hopefully tourists will stay away from the ocean or people from California who don't live near the ocean.
If you don't understand what can happen in storms you need to be really careful. For example, you cannot take your eyes off the ocean even for a moment if you are close to it. Even I an experienced body and board surfer and snorkler and Scuba diver have been caught off guard by waves up to my waist. One time I almost lost both my dogs and myself pulled out to sea by a Rogue unespected wave that grabbed me and the dogs off the beach and tried to pull us out to sea. People only last about 10 minutes this time in the water too because they start hallucinating from hypothermia and then they are gone from their hallucinations interfering with rationality and survival.
So, the big waves are really beautiful but if you don't have a wet suit with a insulating hood, and boogie board or float and or a surf board you won't survive long if a wave sucks you off the shore. Even one or 2 feet of water under the right conditions will pull you off the beach if you can't get your footing right. So, have respect for the ocean during storms or you don't survive it.
Big waves are incredibly beautiful and mesmerizing and world changing but if you don't protect yourselves from them you are soon gone no matter how impressed with them you are.
