What is Ram-ageddon?

If you want to know what RAM is if it still means the same thing as the 1980s, RAM is "Random Access Memory" which allows you to do things in multiple ways. For example, it allows you to access things on your phone or computer from many different directions. When I first started working in Computers in 1966 in College there was no Ram (at least in the private sector) it might have existed secretly in NASA but people generally had not access to it yet. then in the 1960s until later. But, by the 1980s it is what allowed things like the Apple Computer and IBM Clones to take off like they did worldwide and to change everything at least in regard to home computers and then later Smartphones around 2008 with the first IPhone.

 begin quotes:

"RAM-ageddon" (or RAMageddon) is the industry nickname for the severe, AI-driven shortage of memory chips (RAM and NAND storage) that has drastically driven up consumer tech prices.
Why is this happening?
  • The AI Boom: Massive data centers and generative AI models require unprecedented amounts of High-Bandwidth Memory (HBM) to train and run.
  • Reallocated Factories: Semiconductor manufacturers have shifted their production and fab resources toward highly profitable AI hardware, cutting into the supply of standard memory used in everyday devices.
The Impact on Consumers
  • Price Hikes: Laptops, smartphones, video game consoles, and storage drives (SSDs) have all seen significant price increases as companies pass these high memory costs onto everyday buyers.
  • Supply Constraints: Shoppers are experiencing stock shortages and shipment delays on standard memory modules.
  • Industry Shifts: Major manufacturers are now predicting that memory prices will remain high, making the era of cheap tech upgrades much harder to find.
