If the last 20 years or so is any indication the likelihood is just like Al Qaeda, ISIS will remain. Likely the Islamic state will be ended in the long run by all world powers and governments working together against it. But, as a terrorist organization I think ISIS like Al Qaeda will remain even though it will morph through many different stages.
However, I think Assad will fall sometime during the next 10 years. Whether this will be a good thing or a bad thing at present I cannot say. Would I personally prefer Assad to rule Syria than ISIS?
Of course. There is no contest in that.
However, Assad has proven himself not to be a man of his people (at least a man of the Sunni People). So, the majority Sunnis will fight 100 years if necessary to be rid of him now. Because of this, his place as leader of Syria can only be temporary.
But, ISIS as leader of all of Syria would be 100 times worse!
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
