To Attack Assad would mean going to war with both Iran and Russia. Because Assad belongs to Russia and Iran. So, Cold War Sphere of Influence kicks in and "Who wants a world wide nuclear war that ends all life on Earth?"
However, even though ISIS is a response to the 200,000 deaths of Sunnis in Syria and is Sunni Run, ISIS has been so barbaric the way it does things that ALL governments in the Middle East know they will be overthrown by ISIS if it isn't done away with.
So, even though all Sunni government know that ISIS eventually would overthrow Assad, they also know that if Russia didn't wipe out ISIS, Iran would and if Iran didn't wipe out ISIS, the U.S. and they would have no choice but to wipe out ISIS. So, this is what is actually happening now.
So, as long as Russia and Iran support Assad militarily there is no way for any country to defeat him, (including ISIS) without starting a nuclear war with Russia and possibly ending all life on earth in the process.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
