Hospitals likely cannot tell you this because of liability. Because the liability (especially in California) could kill you if you don't know this and get a burst appendix.
What I'm thinking now actually happened to me is that the doctors and nurses could not tell me that if they discovered an appendix problem it was possible that I would die from someone going into a burst appendix just as it happens or shortly after.
Because here's the thing. If your appendix bursts likely your body (if you have a normal immune system) will isolate the infection to one area of the body for safety. But, you have to wait at the very least 48 hours before you operate on it or the patient might die from Sepsis (feces in the blood).
But, doctors and hospitals have malpractice insurance and their actions are governed by that. But, if they (discover) that you have you have a burst appendix they are forced by liability to operate immediately even though that likely is very likely to kill you.
Whereas if you just went home thinking you have gastritis then they have protected you from unnecessary death and themselves from being sued.
1 week later is a little long(which is what happened to me). However, the minimum for staying away to prevent your death is 48 hours.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
