The opposite of enlightenment is ignorance, stupidity, and self destructiveness.
So, you have to decide whether you are going to fight yourself for the rest of your life, or whether you are going to self destruct (quickly or long term suffering) or whether you are going to learn how to get all or most parts of you going in the same direction towards your enlightened self interest and the self interest of all beings?
So, there are only two kinds of people on earth, ones who are self destructing (slowly or quickly) or they have decided to embark upon a path to enlightenment.
Also, it is debatable whether enlightenment has anything at all to do with religions. Because one could also call enlightenment scientific.
So, your path to enlightenment might include religions or not.
So, from a secular point of view, enlightenment simply means you are learning what you need to learn to better survive and along the way and you learn how to help other people learn this too.
So, the goal here is everyone being so enlightened that they stop self destructing and people who want to likely live 1000 to 10,000 years.
This seems at present the direction all this is going.
However, as new discoveries are made enlightenment might take all sorts of new directions depending upon what people discover along the way and what they become interested in doing with their lives.
