The reason for this is if it is prevalent enough to be spreading locally through mosquitoes it means so many people are already infected that your chances of getting Zika are very high. And if you are pregnant when this happens the chances are very very high your child will be brain damaged.
So, the best advice in areas where this virus is spreading locally is: "Don't get pregnant for 2 years!"
Here's repeat of the list of countries where this is true right now from CNN and originally from the CDC (Center for Disease Control) here in the U.S.:
Samoa
Mexico
Honduras
Haiti
Puerto Rico
Saint Martin
Guadeloupe
Martinique
Barbados
Guyana
Cape Verde
Guatemala
Panama
El Salvador
Venezuela
Suriname
French Guiana
Brazil
Boliva
Paraguay
Ecuador
Columbia
