For example in the early 1970s I was studying to be a psychologist before my live in girlfriend got pregnant and we decided to get married and then I had to go to work to support the 3 of us.
However, I learned a whole lot of good things during this time like being trained as a suicide Counselor through Palomar College and being a part of Operation Share then which was tutoring children who needed tutoring help at this time.
There was another course that really helped me at Palomar College which was "The psychology of personal Growth and Development" which gave me a whole new way of thinking about things in life.
My father had been valedictorian of his High School Class in Seattle in 1934 when he graduated but he wasn't allowed to go to college by his father and neither were his two brothers allowed to go to college either. Part of the problem was the Great Depression in all of this though too even though their father paid for his two daughters to go to college to maybe marry a college man and one of them did this.
So, the point I'm trying to make here (sort of obliquely) was my father and mother had not studied psychology like most people working blue collar during the 1940s, 1950s, 1960s and 1970s.
So, finding Psychology Today Magazine in the Palomar College Library literally saved my life.
I realized that not understanding psychology was why I was self destructive at that point in my life.
My parents were wonderful people and did the best they could with their educations in life. However, for me to live past 25 years old I saw that I would have to let go of about 90% of my traditions of various kinds or I wasn't going to stay alive
So, then I was interested in Carl Jung and read one of his patients books which was Herman Hesse who wrote Siddhartha, and Narcissus and Goldmund and Magister Ludi but I was frightened by Steppenwolf because it reminded me of my own emotions and at that time my emotions scared me some because they were very primal like in the book Steppenwolf and I found I couldn't read this book because it reminded me of my own feelings. Having been brought up very religious my emotions scared me as a man.
So, I was searching for a spiritual path that would keep me alive at that point and found it reading "Autobiography of a Yogi" about Yogananda who likely was one of the first Indian Swamis from India who I think came over here in 1914 if I remember correctly.
So, from this book I read about Lahiri Mahasaya who worked for an Indian Railroad in India and also had a family but who was also Yogananda's Paramguru (his Guru's Guru). Yogananda's Guru was Shri Yukteswar.
The point being Lahiri Mahasaya was a Householder Yogi who had a family. At this point I realized that this would be my yoga too because I very much wanted to be a father.
I found most adults incredibly boring because I'm very intelligent. However, Children were so very creative and interesting to me the way they behaved and the way their minds worked.
Too many adults in the 1950s as I was a child and also in the early 1960s were sort of:
"BORN DIED 20 BURIED 60"
I wanted something better than this and started moving towards creating a fun Spontaneous Accomplishment life like I have read about especially regarding spiritual beings here on earth.
However, by age 21 I had been burned by religion in general and realized religion and churches were not survivable for me so I decided to only experience God directly and not have anyone in between me and God at all like a Priest or a Minister.
I had seen the devastating damage to many people's lives who were enslaved by other people that didn't have their best interests in mind.
So, all these things moved me by age 32 to start writing about Arcane as a way to start to heal my childhood and young adult traumas and I also learned I could re-parent myself too which I did actively between the ages of 21 and 25 and for that matter then rest of my life.
So, by age 32 as a father of a 6 year old son and two step kids from my wife's first marriage I began to write using the healing techniques I had learned while studying to be a psychologist in the early 1970s.
However, it wasn't until doctors told me I might die if I didn't retire at age 50 that as I prepared for my potential death from fall of 1998 to May of 1999 when they told me what was wrong with me and that I might still live a normal lifetime that I found out that I wasn't writing healing science fiction but rather I was writing about past, present and future lifetimes that I had already lived (that I was aware of then).
This made me realize that many things authors are writing about is actually one of their past, present or future lives actually on this planet or others.
Because this was true of me as well.
So, it turns out that this was even more healing than I ever thought it could be regarding all my lifetimes in many different ways.
