My memories of the shutdown in 1995 were unusual. I was able to get married in a national park and even schedule a good sized wedding reception there and even stay at a hotel that both JFK and Queen Elizabeth stayed at over the years because of the government shutting down and starting up and shutting down and starting up. (in other words I didn't have to wait a year or more like most people because all the national parks kept shutting down and opening up. I just intuitively lucked out within a few weeks. But then, on honeymoon in the Hawaiian islands because Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park was closed I couldn't get close to the volcanic eruptions going on there because the roads and most of the park was closed. So in one way I was greatly helped but at the same time prevented going to the volcano erupting. This was only one of the islands we were visiting so it was just one less thing we could do. Though it was disappointing we still had a wonderful Honeymoon including helicoptering Kaui and flying over the Napili Coast and staying at Waikiki Beach 10 stories up with an incredible view of the area. Besides, years later I took my two daughters back to Kilauea and saw the eruptions up front and in person in the 2000s. However, shutting down the government might shut down the government long term in a way nobody in the U.S. might want according to U.S. Government cyber experts. 2011 is not at all the same as 1995 at least in regard to the internet and U.S. and international Cyber security. |

Government Shut Down: International Hackers Field Day?
I was listening to the gentlemen in charge of U.S. Cybersecurity during the 1990s for the Clinton Administration on CNN TV. He said that it wasn't as big a problem then because there weren't that many people online. I think most businesses hadn't all converted to doing so much business on line and neither had the government. So, I think pretty much most of the people on line then were mostly techies including myself.(I'm personally defining techie as a person in regard to computers as having much higher than average knowledge of computers or software or both that may come from Business experience, College experience or just a keen interest like a hobby or more and of any age young or old.)
