During this election for the first time there was $200 million dollars donated to Super Pacs which were required to protect the identities of the donors. So, for the first time in history people from any country on earth and ANY political persuasion could donate to influence our elections without any fear of being found out, because they likely won't be thanks to the Supreme Court.

The term "Dark Money" now refers to this untraceable cash flowing into our national elections. Here is a quote concerning dark money also from page 50 of the same Time Magazine: "Ads purchased with untraceable money tend to be among the most vicious. Nearly 1 in 9 dark-money spots are negative, and an analysis by the Annenberg Public Policy Center found that 26% of the ads are deceptive, a slightly higher rate than that for ads by groups that disclose their donors identities. In a year that has been marked by enormous enthusiasm among wealthy conservatives, there is another trend in anonymous spending: almost all of it--83%, according to one review--has been directed against Democrats. This has some in Obama's party fretting about the outsize ability of wealthy individuals and institutions to shape the electoral landscape while hiding their identities behind front groups.
