Sometimes it feels like that. It is almost as if the Republicans are saying something like, "We're going to hold our breath until it is the 1980s or 1950s once again." I think the best answer would be that it is sort of like a big truck called "2013" is coming down the road that Republican Congress persons are standing in the middle of. Yes. It is true that in primaries none of them can get elected again if they raise taxes but in a situation like going over the "Fiscal Cliff" the anger of the Republican Base is going to be just as loud as everyone else if we go over it and they still can't agree to anything by February 2013. And at that point the Republican party will be over for everyone including the Republican Base.
Later: I did not personally hear this but a friend of mine did on the radio. A prominent Republican basically said paraphrased that: "We don't care what happens now the game is over. We will take our chips and leave the game." So, basically this person was saying that the long line of Republican U.S. Presidents was over because of demographic changes to the American people and it was, "I'm taking my football and leaving the game for good." I hope not all Republican Leaders feel this way.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
