A friend of mine who works with Olin who makes suspension systems for Motorcycles told me I shouldn't be riding my KLR 650 off road without modifying it. It is a 2009 KLR 650 I paid cash for (around 7000 dollars new) in 2009. I have ridden it locally and trailered it behind my motorhome to Mt. Shasta when my wife and I rented a Home at Lake Siskiyou then for a month during the 4 th of July season then in 2010. We invited our family to enjoy the fireworks shot up over the lake then which was also quite fun then as well.
However, since then my wife's friend says since I am 6 foot 5 inches I would be better off now to buy a Husqvarna motorcycle because it is of German design for larger fellows like myself and I can also get modifications better. So, likely I will trade in my KLR 650 soon on possibly a 600 or 650 Husqvarna dualsport, likely a 2015 or 2014 or something like that. MY wife's friend who works for Olin will help us pick out the right bike that will accept both a license and my weight over jumps without snapping the front wheel off in an accident. So, it will be something designed for a 6 foot 5 guy and not some under 175 pound guy. also, I'm very big boned and recently someone looked at me and realized I'm like a Viking in my stature at 6 foot 5 inches and big boned. Also, I used to regularly pick up the front end of my VW 1966 Bug by the front bumper and pull the wheels off the ground and walk it around up to 360 degrees to get unstuck from snow or mud back when I was 20 something and could lift up to 1000 pounds using just my legs.
I look like a professional football player retired in real life even though that is not what I did for a living ever.

If I got something like the 650 Terra (my wife's friend says) I could have the right configuration for both my size (6 foot 5 inches) and my weight (football player weight).
It is street legal and licensable and I could trailer it behind my Leisure van in a trailer I purchase and drive it this way behind my motor home to all points in the U.S., Canada and Alaska where there are paved roads behind my motor home.
But, I would ride then anywhere I legally could on dirt roads and back country roads with my new motorcycle.
I would really miss my KLR 650 (2009) which I have grown very fond and used to. So, It might be that I simply modify the front forks on my 2009 for several thousand dollars to be able to go off jumps safely in this bike instead of purchasing a new one. We'll see over the next coupld of months what I choose to do in real life.
My present bike is blue with black edgings which I find very beautiful and if I could only get a red motorcycle I might just choose to stay with my beautiful KLR 650 with new suspension installed.
This is exactly what I have right now (a 2009 klr 650 by Kawasaki). However, if I keep this bike and trailer it behind my motor home across the continental U.S. and Canada and Alaska I probably would have to both modify the suspension (several thousand dollars) and put new knobbies on the back and a new front tire on the front as well.
LIkely just fixing up my 2009 since I'm used to it would be the most cost effective, so I could ride my old friend through many beautiful places in North America while trailering it all over on a trailer I need to purchase now as well.
