Kayaking at Castle Lake at 6000 feet with a view of Mt. Shasta

This is where I was with friends today with 3 kayaks. This is footage from Google Images under the heading "Kayaking at Castle Lake" If you look in one direction if you are in the middle of the lake you look back across the valley at 14,161 feet tall Mt. Shasta. Castle Lake is about 6000 feet about the same altitude as Lake Tahoe. But, Castle lake is a small Alpine Lake but likely my favorite lake of it's kind on earth for a variety of reasons. IF you climb up Shastina which is the smaller peak (around 12,000 feet to the left of the Main Mountain there are small blue turqoise lakes in the top of the cinder cone of Shastina the smaller peak. I climbed up into the cone and saw this around 1976. I also climbed to the very top of Mt. Shasta in August 1970.

Just above the bottom photo of kayakers I realized is actually hart lake or Heart Lake (not sure which) which is a tiny lake frozen usually most of the year. Very seldom have I been to Heart lake when there wasn't ice on it.

In the past (from 1953) until a couple of years ago Castle Lake has been frozen over from about January to somewhere between March and May depending upon the year but it barely froze last year and the 2 years before that it didn't freeze at all because of Global Warming.
