Bixby Bridge is located between Carmel Highlands and Big Sur on Highway 1 on the central coast of Califronia. But just remember the road is closed at Gorda so you cannot go from Morro Bay to Monterey right now because the road has collapsed in such a serious way at Gorda that it is unknown when it can be fixed because the slide took the whole road into the sea there near Gorda.
But, today we went there as far south on 1 as Bixby Bridge, My son, grandson and my son's wife to Bixby Bridge. The problem became that my grandson wasn't afraid of all the drop offs but my son's wife was and my grandson is 3 1/2 so this sort of became a problem once we got out of my truck. In addition to this 3 motorcyclists insisted on doing wheelies (front wheel in the air) while driving across the bridge with a lot of noise for about 20 minutes too.
So, this seemed to make my 3 1/2 year old Grandson even more confused about the whole thing. I had a great time but my son was unhappy because of the grandstanding and noise from the motorcyclists making so much noise and endangering people by taking risks on their motorcycles. A couple of times it looked like they were going over the bridge and onto the rocks below as well with their motocycles.
But, to me, at least it was a very interesting day. The hardest thing for me was turning my large 4 wheel drive Tundra around without really enough room because of cars parked and traffic there.
It was a very beautiful day (only about 55 degrees) but completely warm and sunny so as long as you were in the sun it was completely gorgeous with views that went on forever today! As long as you stayed out of the shade at 55 degrees it was fine.
