After suffering through the 20 years or more of California droughts rain is a big deal. So, as the rain comes down lightly here on Kauai it makes me realize this even more. Being in a tropical paradise where it often rains a little every day will do that for you and make you realize how lucky people are to have enough water wherever they are on earth right now.
Even the Mississippi River isn't navigatable for barges which carry about 1/2 of the grains to market in the U.S. right now and people are walking across parts of the Mississippi River that they never could before. So, the drought seems to be spreading further eastward all the time now for some reason.
I have often written about the desertification of California. However, now what is happening is storms off the Pacific Ocean and possibly even the Gulf of Mexico and Gulf of California are coming up into at least Southern California and making it up as far as Santa Barbara and even to San Luis Obispo often too. So now, at least up to Santa Barbara they are getting more rain
