Solid State Batteries, Sodium-Ion Batteries and Lithium Sulfur batteries will likely replace Lithium Ion batteries

I asked Google AI about new battery technologies and here is what it said begin quote:
Solid-State Battery News: Samsung & Toyota | Monolith
Several battery technologies offer advancements beyond lithium-ion, including solid-state batteries, sodium-ion batteries, and lithium-sulfur batteries. Solid-state batteries promise increased energy density and safety, while sodium-ion batteries offer a cost-effective alternative due to the abundance of sodium. Lithium-sulfur batteries are also being researched for their high energy density and potential for ultra-fast charging.
Solid-State Batteries:
  • Enhanced safety:
Solid electrolytes eliminate the risk of flammable liquids, leading to safer battery operation.
  • Increased energy density:
Solid-state batteries can achieve higher energy densities, potentially doubling the range of electric vehicles.
  • Faster charging:
The solid electrolyte allows for faster charging and discharging rates.
  • Challenges:
Research is still ongoing to develop solid electrolytes with high ionic conductivity and scalability.

Sodium-Ion Batteries:
  • Cost-effectiveness:
Sodium is more abundant and less expensive than lithium, making sodium-ion batteries potentially cheaper to produce.
  • Sustainability:
Sodium-ion batteries offer a more sustainable option as they can utilize lower-cost materials like aluminum foil instead of copper.
  • Performance:
While energy density is currently lower than lithium-ion, ongoing research aims to improve performance.
  • Potential:
Sodium-ion batteries are being considered for stationary energy storage and electric vehicles.

Lithium-Sulfur Batteries:
  • High energy density:
Lithium-sulfur batteries have the potential to store more energy per unit of mass compared to lithium-ion.
  • Affordable and abundant materials:
Sulfur is relatively inexpensive and abundant, making lithium-sulfur batteries potentially less expensive.
  • Ultra-fast charging:
Advancements in lithium-sulfur technology have enabled ultra-fast charging.
  • Challenges:
Corrosion and limited lifespan are current challenges being addressed in research.

Other Emerging Technologies:
  • Zinc-air batteries:
    .
Offer higher energy density and are safer than lithium-ion, but face challenges with self-discharge and lifespan.

  • Lithium-air batteries:
    .
  • Also have high energy density potential, but face challenges with stability and air contamination.

  • Cobalt-free lithium-ion batteries:
    .
  • Remove cobalt, a rare earth metal, from the cathode, addressing supply chain concerns.
