American Graffiti(1973): I was 14 in 1962 so this is a time I remember quite well

My best friend was already building street racers in his garage. By 1964 the Beatles came to the U.S. and we were rebuilding my friends 1953 Mercury Transmission. He bought a 40 Ford Coupe that was black that we drove around in then too in Glendale where I started going to Glendale High school in fall of 1963. So, this movie is a lot like what I was experiencing from 14 to 16 years of age then. Then he bought a 1951 Red Ford Convertible that we put 10 foot surfboards behind the front seat straight into the air behind us. This was okay with everyone then too by the way on freeways between Glendale and Huntington Beach where we surfed sometimes. This was the era then. Though this movie takes place in Modesto or Merced where George Lucas grew up it was a similar thing then almost anywhere you were in the U.S. at this time. My first date with a girl to the Alex Theater in Glendale I was 15 and my friend drove us there in his 1951 Red Ford Convertible then. Amazingly different times than now!

The white 1956 Ford Thunderbird driven by Suzanne Somers in American Graffiti was owned by Irving Schwartz of San Rafael, California. He was never more than a few feet away from his car during filming and was always wiping and shining it. He also drove Suzanne Somers crazy by telling her what to do and what not to do. The car has a history of being owned by the same family for a long time and has made appearances at classic car shows. The white 1958 Chevy Impala (Ron Howard, “Steve Bolander’s car”) sat at the movie studio for some time after the film was completed. It was sold through a newspaper listing to a young man in his late teens for a few hundred dollars. Clip, American Graffiti. 1973. Not a coming of age film as it's often tagged, except that it made director Lucas his first million, producer Coppola his second ($777K > 140M). Rather, this is a farewell movie, for the gang at Mel’s Drive‑In and the era (Camelot), warmly depicting the eventful, final nite ...
