On one level it doesn't matter where the Covid-19 came from because it would have hit us at some point anyway simply because of the 6th Great Extinction going on for the last several hundred years now.
Creating a vaccine likely only means the next big Covid or other outbreak will be much worse than this one. The vaccine only speeds up the creation of new viruses for a variety of reasons hitting the human race (or any other species on earth that are already going extinct).
So, for me, the goal would be that enough people are still alive in 2100AD (a minimum of 1 million people worldwide so that our gene pool doesn't get so small it becomes problematic on various levels.
To me, the goal is to not let us go below 1 million people and to try to keep technology alive so we don't lose that over the next several hundred years.
Democracy would help too so people are kinder. If we have free voting I believe less people will be murdered in really awful ways too. So, protecting democracy and technology will allow people to live longer and be educated to be kind more to each other too worldwide.
Otherwise, the human race likely will go extinct this century if we cannot preserve democracy and preserve human kindness and preserve enough technology, especially medical technology.
