Furosemide for Edema

If you take Furosemide for Edema it's important also to take Potassium. Why?

Because the Furosemide drains your body of all potassium and human cells need potassium to stay alive.

So, if you take Furosemide for edema you might die within a few weeks to a month if you don't also take enough Potassium.

However, when you take Furosemide you need to be prepared to pee all the time for about 6 hours or more.

I had a friend (before he died) who was taking it twice a day and was always peeing himself in public because he took it morning and night and so couldn't control his bladder functions because of taking it twice a day.

So, it's better if you take it once a day if possible at night so you don't have the problem of peeing yourself in public.

But, Furosemide will reduce the swelling at your ankles and keep you out of the hospital because of edema.

But drinking as little water as possible also will allow you to take less furosemide so the  peeing part becomes less of an issue when you learn not to drink water except in emergencies or when your mouth gets too dry.
