What happens if a 100 megaton Hydrogen bomb goes off over North America, Russia, or China?

Basically if you are near anything large enough metal (like your toaster or oven or car or truck) and are within 12 feet of this you likely will die from the EMP anywhere. For example, if you detonated the 100 Megaton Satan II over the center of the lower 48 states at 528,000 feet it likely would kill because of this 1/3 to 1/2 of the people in the U.S. that were close enough to metal.

However, people out walking might be okay and people at the beach or in their backyard not in a metal chair might be okay and I'm not sure what the Faraday effect would be on cars and trucks if you were riding in them. However, everything electrical on anything in the whole nation above about 10 feet under the ground would never work again. Also, jet passenger planes over the U.S. wouldn't work along with surface controls of wings tail and rudder so immediately they would soon crash all over the place.

All electric vehicles would stop immediately and because of the way they are designed the wheels likely would stop turning immediately at speed because they would freeze up and everyone driving over 20 or 30 miles an hour would very likely die when this happened.

If you were in your kitchen an EMP lightning bolt would come off your stove at least 12 feet and kill you and even your toaster might arc like this and kill you. So, that's why about 1/3 to 1/2 of the people would die if something like the Satan II of Russia went off over the U.S.

I write about this in:
