It's mostly because most Americans are so provincial and haven't traveled much around the world (especially in Central U.S.). People on both coasts (east and west) have traveled more including the southern Coasts from Texas to Florida. So, it is this provincial small mindedness that is going to get the U.S. into another war soon.
It's sort of like people arguing in the middle of a street about "Anything" while a Semi Truck drives through and mows them all down killing them. This is where the U.S. is right now and unfortunately this includes Trump too. He will naturally be mowed down by the world in the coming war. It is coming whether Trump is president likely or not the way things look right now too.
