From Sacramento to Redding it was up to 100 degrees today

We got away from the coast to a really sunny day this morning and temperatures about 68 degrees by about 11 am there. But by the time we reach Interstate 5 it was 95 to 100 degrees all the way. We saw a fire near San Juan Batista in the hills there today but didn't see Air tankers dousing it with fire retardant so we wondered if it could be a controlled burn or not because no fire engines staging anywhere we could see either. By the time we got to Santa Nella it was at least 92 to 95 degrees and "accidentally" met up with our next door neighbors that were going to Lake Tahoe to visit relatives there. I was worried about our late start that we might hit traffic in Sacramento but we didn't even slow down once all the way north to Mt. Shasta this time so we were really lucky. But, by Corning when we got out of the truck for gas it felt vaguely oven like out even though I notice it most when it's 117 degrees to 125 degrees in Palm Springs when I have been there where it really resembles an oven outside and you only want to be outside in a pool or getting gas in your car or something like that. The trees everywhere are still green which is great but the wild oats and weeds are mostly brown which means anything like a cigarette butt or an off road motorcycle backfiring or even a chain saw could set off a fire pretty easily now most places. But, like I said at least all the trees and bushes are still green with some flowers still out from the late may rains. The May rains in California were a record for the last 150 years by the way because it very seldom ever rains in California ever from about May 1st until around October 1st most years. (Except for monsoon mountain and desert thunderstorms.) These mostly come up off the pacific ocean up through Mexico into the deserts and sometimes mountains of California. By the time we got to Mt. Shasta the sun was starting to set and it was about 77 degrees by then. It said it was 86 for a high today in Mt. Shasta. My wife and I sat out on the terrace and watched the mountain turn gold and then pink and there is still quite a bit of snow on Mt. Shasta for this late in the year also.
