While I was studying Tibetan Buddhism with Tibetan Lamas in California, Oregon and India and Nepal in the 1980s especially, there was a saying: "Being of One Taste with:" in this case enlightenment. This saying was mostly about being of the same mind as enlightenment or whatever you were talking about. So, literally it would be like you are eating the same food with enlightenment of other Enlightened people who have come before you.
So, in doing your practices often you would be experiencing "The Taste of Enlightenment's Nectar".
I started more seriously studying Tibetan Buddhism first with Lama Gyaltrul Rinpoche in Ashland, Oregon by going to an initiation he was giving of "The Thousand Buddhas Empowerment" which was also called "The Sword Which pierces all Defilement".
Walking into this room I experienced being literally two places physically at the same time. This wasn't something I had experienced in this kind of context before ever in my life. I had studied with Christian and Native America Teachers and also my parents were Mystical Christian Ministers in Los Angeles while I was 6 to 12 years old a lot too. So, you could say I studied Mystical Christianity with my parents too throughout my life as well.
They also taught me not to drink alcohol or to smoke anything too and not to take any drugs. So, this was a very good influence on me.
However, the whole point of this article is to help you attain "The Taste of Enlightenment's Nectar". I think I first really began to see what "enlightenment's nectar" was in Bodhgaya when I was around 500,000 Tibetans, Nepalis and other Tibetan Buddhists from all over the world.
I first really began to experience the sweet nectar of enlightenment then as I began to recognize what it was.
At first, I had believed coming from a Christian nation that Only people who believed in God might experience this level of Bliss for I had seen many Christians in various states of Rapture even if that rapture eventually led to them passing on. So, at least they might have been happy when they passed on.
So, experiencing this same state of Spiritual Bliss around Tibetan Buddhists around the world really made me think a lot simply because 75% of Buddhists around the world don't necessarily believe in God. However, I'm one of the 25% of Buddhists around the world who do believe in God who is also a Mystical Christian as well.
So, it was hard at first to reconcile people being in spiritual bliss while not necessarily believing in God. But, I saw that this was true there in Bodhgaya, India witnessing 500,000 Tibetan Buddhist Gathering there some in Traditional Clothes from Tibet from as far away as Kham, Tibet then.
Also, People talk about the supernatural things that happen around Tibetan Lamas a lot around the world but often these things are true.
However, one of the things about Tibetan Lamas is that they are very polite. In other words you don't scare people with what you can actually do because they might have a heart attack or stroke and then they might die.
So, there is this Compassion and helpfulness in wanting people to become enlightened and not wanting them to die from witnessing supernatural events that they cannot deal with.
Here's an example of this:
I was in Bodhgaya, India and trying to reach a friend of ours we met from Santa Cruz, California whose name was Geshe Lobsang Gyatso. We called him Geshela which was an endearment for Geshe. We met him somehow and found him from around 500,000 Tibetan Buddhists from around the world gathering to be initiated by the Dalai Lama into the Kalachakra Tantra which is in regard to Shambala and the King of Shambala.
Well. At the end of the Kalachakra Tantric initiation for 500,000 people with the Dalai Lama giving the initiation there is supposed to be rain for the initiation to be real and to take upon the 500,000 gathered there.
As a westerner who grew up in a materialistic Culture like the U.S. I was sort of: "Yeah Sure" it's going to rain on a dry day when the air smells like burning plastic and Cow dung and it's almost like a desert here now and it's hot!"
But, just like on Cue I watched a little cloud form ONLY above where the 500,000 were surrounding the Dalai Lama and on cue it rained on the 500,000 people present. I was completely blown away by this.
Later, I was in Dharamshala on the other side of India up in the Himalayas and I was talking to a friend and relative of Geshela and I mentioned about this incident and how I was blown away by it.
He pointed to a guy in white Robes nearby and said: "Oh. That was the Guy who did that, who made it rain."
This took it to a whole new level of how things are often done in the Himalayan religions of India, Nepal and Tibet and in this area of the world.
Enlightenment's Nectar is a real thing. It is scientific. It's real.
People in the U.S. might believe in their religions but there is definitely something different about what you are going to experience in India, Nepal and Tibet if you are open to it.
So, after many amazing experiences beyond which I can usefully describe here enlightenment's nectar is a real thing.
However, I must also say that Reality is different in many different ways in India and Nepal and in Tibet too and this was especially true in 1985 and 1986 when I was there.
The Next Experience was in Dharamshala area in the Himalayas at around 7000 or 8000 feet elevation. Thubten, Geshela's nephew who was a mountain climbing guide for worldwide mountain climbers there in the Himalayas who had given up his monk's robes to Geshela to hold for him while he supported financially is parents as they passed on. He also spoke amazing English which isn't common among Tibetan lamas or monks too. So, he was a treasure trove of information regarding Tibetan Buddhist Dharma.
So, he was given permission for us to visit Ling Rinpoche who was the Dalai Lamas Teacher growing up who ran Tibet while the Dalai Lama was growing up until he became I think around 18 and could lead his country then(Tibet).
Well, Thubten took my family walking up on a hike to around 7000 feet elevation or 8000 feet elevation (the 5 of us) (wife and I and 3 children 10 to 14). Eventually we stopped at a slate roofed house made of stone and two Tibetan Buddhist Monks ushered us inside. On a wooden Table Sat Ling Rinpoche in Maitreya Mudra sitting there which is a meditation physical position of blessing to all beings with the right hand up in blessing and the left hand in the lap receiving this blessing that is being transferred to all beings.
I asked the monks there through Thubten who spoke English whether Ling Rinpoche was ever coming back from his meditation. They said "No" he had been in this state for 1 or 2 years already.
Because I'm a clairvoyant I could experience Maitreya heaven radiating from his physical body which was unlike anything I have ever experienced before. also, my own father had passed away the previous summer and so I began to tear up experiencing this. I found I had to go outside and cry in amazement at this experience. This was something different than I had ever experienced before where Maitreya heaven was flowing through Ling Rinpoche's body here into this world like this.
I have never been quite the same after this experience and when I talk about Enlightenment's nectar often I also speak of being of One Taste with Maitreya's Heaven also ever since this experience.
