Everyone else I knew of with a heart virus like mine did die (at least in California) at the time. However, I had a new 2 1/2 year old daughter as well as a 10 year old daughter and a 25 year old son then and two steps kids and I didn't want to die especially because my 2 1/2 year old daughter and my 10 year old daughter wouldn't have a father to grow up with. This was my thinking at the time.
If I didn't have all these children and didn't have a wife I likely would have just let go and died then. Because it was very hard to stay alive from Fall of 1998 to May of 1999.
And once you survive something like that maybe you can survive things in the future too.
