when I was young my father and my grandfather scared me. Why? They were very real and not always polite

Middle Class people (regular people) who survived the Great Depression often had to be very real whereas today everyone tries to be so very polite. People were not usually very polite when I grew up. This was a carry over from the Cowboy Days. If you have ever seen 1923 with Harrison Ford streaming you can see how out in the country it was like this in many ways into the 1950s.

My father and Grandfather were really intense people like the Series 1923. I and my cousin were the first males in my family that didn't have to shoot at someone during their lives. And I'm not talking about being a soldier either. Things were very intense about to around 1960 or 1970 when the Viet Nam war and protests changed so many different things in life. My Cousin and I looked at the intensity of our forebears and decided to be more collegiate and much more polite than our forebears were. Our intensity is still there for emergencies though. We just don't stay in that intense state all the time like my father and Grandfather did in a Cowboy kind of way.

So, the world has changed a lot from the early 1900s through the 1950s and early 1960s. It was a different world then. My father was born in 1916 and my grandfather in the 1870s and lived until 1970.
